How to Make a Poster on Canva
A poster on Canva starts with the right dimensions for where it will be printed or shared. From there you customize a template or build from scratch and export print-ready.
Pick the right size
- Search Poster on the Canva home page (defaults to 18 x 24 in / 42 x 59.4 cm).
- Or click Create a design → Custom size and set exact dimensions in cm/in/px.
- For digital-only posters, A4 or Letter sizes are common.
Start from a template or blank
- Browse poster templates and pick one close to your style.
- Click on the canvas to swap in your title, body text, and image.
- Or start blank and use Elements, Text, and Uploads to build from scratch.
Make it print-ready
- Click File → Show print bleed so you don''t place text in the trim area.
- Keep important content inside the safe-zone guides.
- Use high-resolution images (Canva flags low-res with a yellow warning icon).
Export as a print-ready PDF
- Click Share → Download.
