How to Make a Poster on Canva

A poster on Canva starts with the right dimensions for where it will be printed or shared. From there you customize a template or build from scratch and export print-ready.

Pick the right size

  1. Search Poster on the Canva home page (defaults to 18 x 24 in / 42 x 59.4 cm).
  2. Or click Create a designCustom size and set exact dimensions in cm/in/px.
  3. For digital-only posters, A4 or Letter sizes are common.

Start from a template or blank

  1. Browse poster templates and pick one close to your style.
  2. Click on the canvas to swap in your title, body text, and image.
  3. Or start blank and use Elements, Text, and Uploads to build from scratch.

Make it print-ready

  1. Click FileShow print bleed so you don''t place text in the trim area.
  2. Keep important content inside the safe-zone guides.
  3. Use high-resolution images (Canva flags low-res with a yellow warning icon).

Export as a print-ready PDF

  1. Click ShareDownload.
  2. Choose PDF Print, check Crop marks and bleed, and CMYK color profile (Pro) if your printer requests it.
